Dear LES Families,
Wow, it was an incredible first day of school! We welcomed 455 students back to Lisbon Elementary School today. It was great to see so many happy faces as I welcomed kids in the building and as I visited classrooms throughout the day.
All of our students are starting the school year with school-wide lessons around building community to create a positive learning environment that ensures equity in the classroom. As per our Superintendent's Call to Action for Leading and Learning with Equity, these lessons emphasize each individual’s contribution to the classroom; norms for respectful, trusting and safe interactions, and the meaning and value of equity and how it looks and feels in our community.
As students review expectations necessary to ensure an environment throughout the building that is conducive to teaching and learning, they will also be actively involved in classroom activities aimed at promoting collaboration, teamwork, mutual respect, and problem solving during the first several days.
Today, your child will bring home his/her Take Home Folder. There is a lot of information included in the folder, so please take time to review the information. You will find information about Food and Nutrition Services in Howard County (including an application for Free and Reduced Price Meals). Please review the 2018 Student & Parent Handbook. This is a great resource to help guide you through the school year.
We currently have 96% of our emergency cards complete on Family File. Thank you goes out to those who completed them before school started. If you need help, please contact the front office.
As we dismiss at 3:10 p.m., please be patient and understand that buses may be late for afternoon drop off for the first few days as bus drivers become familiar with students and their routes.
Thank you for all you have done to help your child prepare for our first day together! We are all looking forward to an exciting and successful school year.
Mrs. Anoff, Principal
